Those interested are called upon to put forward viewpoints supported by text and other media concerning the subject of Reconstruction, in order to start a dialogue on ways to approach the term today, in relation to the individual and the collective and with regard to how we negotiate the limits between private and public space.
In order to work towards a plan for the Reconstruction of Athens (that could also eventually be extended to other urban environments), you are encouraged to propose site specific actions in various areas of the city, which can reveal aspects of an unknown or less visible social reality. The project aspires to create a new cartography of the social networks of the city, aiming at a revelation of the experienced space and time in peripheral or socially separated parts.
Axis and thematic strands
- Networks and collectives in the town (creation of local, artistic, minority, political and other communities, encouragement and support for electronic and social networking)
- In search of a new balance in the relation between center and suburbs (evolving neighborhoods, new aspects of Athens or any metropolis in the 21st century)
- The importance of the spread of information and other media through the internet, free press, autonomous posters, stickers and alternative ways to transform a city into a living being
- The collective experience in periods of major events (Olympics, Biennials, international forums etc)
- Negotiating the limits between the private and the public space/sphere
- Surveillance of public space: defence or repression of its nature?
- The public display of private life, especially through electronic media.
- The contribution of art in the Reconstruction of the city
Practical approach
- Creation of a web site, where the expressed viewpoints of every participant in the dialogue are going to be made public and where the actions in the city will be presented.
- Recording theoretical approaches and specific actions with a view to future publication in print.
- Regular meetings, continuous research, public/open discussions, actions in the city with exhibitions, organization of experimental scenes etc.
